Position Summary: This position will report to the Chief Investment Officer and will support EverWest’s effort to originate and manage high quality, diversified loans and loan portfolios, that help support superior risk-adjusted investment strategies/returns. Role Components: Oversee all aspects of any debt capital markets activity related to acquisition financing, debt refinancing, and fund-level debt capitalizations. Manage key external relationships including all types of real estate lenders, investment bankers, and legal counsel including recommendations around bank direct, syndicate, and designation of “lead” banks for specific transactions. Will work with and provide direction to external advisors and internal stakeholders during transactions to complete all related marketing, underwriting, and legal documents. Responsible for proactive and ongoing optimization of existing capital structure and any related hedging activity. Advise investment teams on financing feasibility and assist with transaction diligence and assessment of target fit/strategic rationale. Ensure ongoing compliance with any legal, accounting or covenant requirements related to lenders, properties, funds, and investment programs. This role also encompasses supporting EverWest execution efforts as it relates to origination, underwriting, and portfolios/program strategies. Primary Responsibilities:
Capital markets research and communication
Developing and managing all lender relationships for origination of direct and syndicated loans, including limited partner relationships with co-investment interest
Providing underwriting, structuring, pricing and syndication assessments and recommendations
Leading the execution of all syndication related financings including all internal syndication approval requirements
Supporting the Portfolio Management function for debt placement including all debt capital market strategies as well as fund and property reporting as required
Lead direct origination team efforts in client proposals and meetings
Oversee, approve, and help execute the negotiation of all legal documents along with the coordination of all closing and funding requirements of various constituents
Supporting EverWest’s efforts to attract, develop, and retain best-in-class origination, underwriting, portfolio management, and capital markets talent
Education and Experience Expected:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or relevant field required. MBA or CFA desirable industry
Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in real estate, leveraged finance, private equity, credit/high yield investment management or corporate capital markets
Minimum 2 years of experience in a director role (or above) in real estate investment management OR mastery of director skills and responsibilities as demonstrated by consistent, multi-year successful performance.
Experienced with loan executions, in-place loan management, or loan work-outs
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed:
Strong understanding of and ability to engage with the investor community
Significant experience with leveraged entities, capital structures and the unique dynamics of private equity ownership
Demonstrated leadership and strategic planning skills
Strong commercial acumen with organizational agility, drive for results and global/cultural awareness
Superior analytical and presentation (design and content origination) skills
Expertise networking and building effective relationships internally and externally
Working knowledge or familiarity with Fair Disclosure regulations and materiality issues as they relate to financial reporting
Ability to communicate complex information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
Expertise with relating sensitive information to diverse groups both internally & externally.
Ability to apply abstract principles to solve complex conceptual issues.
Ability to perform a wide range of complex tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence.
Ability to perform under stress.
Ability to multi-task.
If employed in Colorado, the salary for this position generally ranges between $200,000 and $225,000 with a bonus target up to 100%. This range is an estimate, based on potential employee qualifications, operational needs and other considerations permitted by law. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the stated range based on various factors including, among other factors, location, education and training, experience, internal pay alignment, and performance. A potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions. Many candidates’ compensation will start in the bottom half of the stated range. This role is also eligible to participate in a merit-based annual bonus award.
