Position Summary:

The Director of Tax will oversee all aspects of the tax function for EverWest corporate entities, managed funds and properties, including compliance, reporting, controversy, planning and structuring related to federal, state and local income and franchise taxes.  This person will report to the Chief Accounting Officer and work closely with other members of the accounting and finance department.  The position covers the operations of EverWest including services for investors and will require working closely with EverWest’s foreign parent company, Sagard, and affiliate The Canada Life Insurance Company.

Job Description:
This position is responsible for compliance and reporting, controversy, and planning / structuring related to federal, state and local income, and franchise taxes, which would include, but not be limited to, federal and state tax filings and reporting requirements, state apportionment, federal / state differences, federal and state attribute tracking / utilization, state nexus determination, and monitoring legislative changes.  Other specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
•     Review coordination and oversight of income tax provision process in IFRS and US GAAP
•     Oversight of REIT compliance
•     Preparation and review of required financial statement analytics
•     Federal and state income and indirect tax controversy, including notices
•     Federal and state income and indirect tax return compliance
•     Other income and indirect tax projects as they arise, including tax research, documentation, and purchase accounting on acquisitions
•     Communicate and coordinate with other departments across the business and external auditors
•     Preparation or coordination of international tax compliance
•     Oversight of tracking compliance with federal and state tax filing and reporting requirements
•     Coordination and communication with other departments across the business, including managing the compliance process, ensuring timely and accurate return filings, review of material filings, and coordination with company management and external service providers
•     Assessing tax consequences of proposed and actual operational and structural changes
•     Monitoring legislation developments and assessing their impact to the enterprise
•     Development and documentation of filing positions, including assuring consistency in methodologies and positions across the enterprise
•     Manage examinations by tax authorities
•     Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:
•     Preferred experience with real estate fund complexes, REIT compliance and US/Canadian cross border issues
•     Experience with MRI and Avid Xchange is preferred
•     Experience in commercial real estate (industrial/office) / construction / property management industry
•     Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office
•     Excellent written and verbal communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills necessary
•     Must be a motivated selfstarter with the motivation to work with a team in an entrepreneurial environment
•     Ability to multitask, with attention to detail and an ability to work both independently and in a team environment

Salary and Benefits:
The salary for this position generally ranges between $130,000 and $160,000. This range is an estimate, based on potential employee qualifications, operational needs and other considerations permitted by law. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the stated range based on various factors including, among other factors, location, education and training, experience, internal pay alignment, and performance. A potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions. Many candidates’ compensation will start in the bottom half of the stated range. This role is also eligible to participate in a merit-based annual bonus program, health, vision, and dental insurance plans, long and short-term disability, 401K plan, and PTO. This information is provided in connection with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, and similar positions located outside of Colorado may or may not necessarily receive the same compensation.
